Disappearing Icons with Floptical Drive and Sys 6.0.1

I am using an Iomega floptical drive with a RamFAST SCSI card (ROM v3.00l)
and System 6.0.1 installed.  Occasionally, while in the Finder, all of the
items (icons or menus) in every window disappear.  This normally happens
when I have a MS-DOS disk in my floptical drive.  I can solve this problem
by ejecting the disk and re-inserting it.  However, I would prefer a better
solution.

Does any one else have this problem, too?  What can I do?
