daye@CSOS.ORST.EDU asked about the Grappler+ and a Deskjet 500..
I own both and the solution is to set it for use with the Apple Dot
Matrix printer which is Dip-switch #3 set to ON and the rest OFF. I was
given a copy of the Grappler+ manual when I bought it but even though it
told the way for it to work for many printers, it doesn't mention
current models (no surprise there!). For curiosity and to check if
there was an even more efficient setting, I tested all combinations of
dip switch settings and the above is the ONLY way it works.
BTW: if you think I'm a glutton for punishment, don't worry.. I had an
Apple Dot Matrix printer prior to getting the Deskjet 500, so the dips
were already set properly (coincidentally).
I wish I knew exactly what each dip switch did to the way the card
reacts.. the manual just says how things need to be set for different
printers but doesn't really say why.
I assume that a majority if not ALL current printer models need the
Grappler+ cards dips set for the Apple Dot Matrix.
