Referring to this reply and Joe's question: no, I did never have the pleasure
with a lawyer from Apple. I received a very (really!) kind note from an
employee who explained the situation to me and said that "there is a potential
problem". They noticed this violation of their trademark when I tried to get a
unique filetype from Apple. First they read "GSymbolix" as "Gee-Symbolix", but
suddenly..hehehe...:)
I don't think Apple cares about the "GS" anymore. But I wouldn't recommend
Detroit to name their next car "MacIntosh". I'm not a lawyer but once someone
from Switzerland's trademark department told me that you CAN protect names that
are infinitely important to mankind, such as Apple or IBM.
