You can't remove them completely.  You can set them to some key you know
you'll never hit, but there's currently no way to make them disappear
completely.

The patcher doesn't change the version number.  It's a quick & dirty patch
to fix a genuinely  ** STUPID **  bug.  v1.0.1 is a full update, and should
be available soon (it's being tested now).

Barring any last-minute problems, it'll be available from WestCode for some
trivial fee (like $5) or online.  I've written an updater that copies parts
of the v1.0 INIT into a partial copy of the v1.0.1 INIT, so I can distribute
the update on FTP sites, GEnie, e-mail, BBSs, etc without worrying about
somebody getting a free copy of HP.

Mark it so that nothing ever gets compressed (i.e. don't mark any folders).
The manual compression ignores the mark status, of course, on the assumption
that if you tell it to compress something, you really want it to be
compressed.  There's no overriding "don't even THINK about compressing stuff
here" setting.

HP doesn't do anything unexpected.  You either have to compress it with the
Finder extension or have the folder marked.  I have stuff compressed just
about everywhere, but I don't compress my system folder or anything that
I need to use to work on HardPressed.

The bottom line is, do whatever you feel comfortable with.  Someday you
may want to boot without HP for some reason, and if there are certain things
that you can't live without, don't compress them.

(I *did* compress a "reference copy" of HP v1.0 from 2.6MB to 800K with
LZSS... VERY nice.)
