I got a Sportster 14.4 too. Great modem deal. Makes nice graduation gift.
First, you have to get a hardware handshaking cable. I got mine for $9
($3 plus $6 shipping!) and I'll post the address when I get back to my GS
at home. Use the USR Dual Standard (CTS/RTS) to config the init string.
One or two commands won't work and you might have to add one or two but
that's basically it.
