  The Amiga isn't bad, but to be honest I'd have to recommend a *86 machine;
get Linux (the free UNIX system for the 386/486), run X11 and Microsoft
Windows (only when necessary - Windows really bites).
  Plus, when NeXTStep comes out for the 486, it will be quite a nice
system.

  Since there aren't any cheap desktops based on the ARM 600 series RISC
processors, I can't recommend one of those.

  The Mac is okay, but I find it perfectly valid to not support a company
whose officers have publically insulted 6 million customers.
