Marking bad sectors

I have an old 40 meg Sider hard drive on my GS that
recently developed a couple of bad sectors and caused
me to lose some data.  Is there anyway of "marking" these
sectors as bad so that the operating system never attempts
to save or retrieve anything from them again?

I already zeroed the disk and re-formatted and re-loaded
from a semi-recent backup, the bad sectors are still there.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
