Help, my directory is damaged

The directory seems to be damaged on the main partition of my hard drive. 
My GS boots and runs but it won't let me save files to the partition or
throw them away.  I've ordered Bakkup so I can back up my HD, reformat it
and resore it.  I don't trust the Archiver that came with 6.0 and don't
like the one that came with Apple's SCSI card.

There is an unknown 1K file that has appeared on my root directory called
ALipA.  Has anyone seen this before?  It could be a virus but I'm not
sure.  Does anyone think I'll have to buy another program to restore my HD?
