Re: GEnieLamp A2 July 1993

The old days, with no advertising on usenet, are gone. Kaput. Finished.
No longer here. This is no longer arpanet, or even Internet or NSFnet.
Usenet is a set of files passed between many, many sites, of varying
policies. Frankly, if every site were to enforce their restrictions on
the articles, almost nothing would appear in any group. But the convention
so far is to try to respect one another, restrict info to groups where it
is expected, and carry on.

So, for instance, all these flames about commercialism - they should be moved
to alt.flames.

The specific newsletters of GEnie perhaps could move to either the
programming group or the user org groups. Or they could appear in the
alt.online-service group, which deals specifically with discussions, etc.
concerning the various online services.

The belly aching about Apple did this or that should either go to the
alt.flames or alt.dev.null .

And so forth.

A note here telling folk where they can go to read the newsletter would be
in order.
