|es, it's possible, and I've done it. You can even pull the
mechanism out of a white UniDisk 3.5 and slap the SuperDrive
mechanism in there and it will work fine. Just make sure you pull
everything, including the daughterboard, out of the UniDisk 3.5.
(You may note that the connector between the daughterboard and the
drive mechanism in a UniDisk 3.5 is the same as between the cable
and the daughterboard. This may bring up the question of whether
you can simply plug the cable right into the drive mechanism to
get a regular "dumb" Apple 3.5 Drive. Well, don't try it, you
can't.)
