Appleworks code files

O.K. Appleworks fans. Here's one for ya. Do the Beagls Bros. Appleworks
patches (such as UltraMacros, etc...) come as extra binary files that are
simply put in the same path as APLWRKS.SYSTEM, or are they SYS-type programs
that do their own patching?
I want to put a screen-saver (that uses the DHR if no //GS, or the GS's
SHR screen) into Appleworks that uses Phantasm's screensaver code. The fix
will, of course, start up/shutdown the toolsets for QDII, assuming that
Phantasm doesn't already do it.
Or would it be better to try to patch Phantasm itself to show a screen
saver from P8 programs (in addition to 16-bit code).
Which raises the question: Does Quality Computers expect to release more
screen-saver modules, or a module to let me put a SHR pic on the screen
(instead of the patters Graffitti gives)? Does anyone know the code
interface (& environment requirements) for phantasm? I'd like to make my
own star-trek (& other SF) screen-savers like those found on Macs and
(ugh) PCs.
I don't have a good disassembler (yet), though I suppose I could use
DUMPOBJ from Orca's shell in order to determine what's in a screen-saver.
Oh, well. Yet more toy projects for my GS. :)
