sure there is a relatively easy way to clean the printer head of the ImageWriter II... First, remove the top of the printer, then take out the ribbon. Next slide the carriage return all the way to the right. Grasp the print head by it's base and bend that white plastic lever to the right, just enough to free the print head.
Now you can clean the print head... you can spray the nine wires with WD40 at close range.. also, a good way to clean it is by dipping the pins in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes.
To replace the printer head, align the print head circuit board with the socket which holds it and push the print head to the right to bend the white lever. When it's all lined up, gently push it down to fully seat it.
