Re: Printing from an emulator with Publish It!
Dean,
Even in Bernie under OS 9 on a Beige G3 with built-in serial ports,
PublishIt! 4 will stumble during its two-way printer polling operation, I
_think_ due to a timing loop that I never tracked down.
Anyway...
The method I use is to "print" (i.e. 'save') the file to disk as PostScript
from within PublishIt!, and then drag and drop the file on top of Apple's
Preview application, or alternatively on top of Adobe's Acrobat Distiller.
This creates a .pdf file that you can print directly from Preview, or any
other application that can read .pdf files.
Be sure to select the option (from within PublishIt!) to prepend the
Laserprep file to the print job.
Finally, you need to make a couple of minor modifications to the stock
Laserprep file (the one included with PublishIt!) to make this all work.
One mod strips off the LaserWriter-specific smoothing code at the end of the
Laserprep file. This code flushes the rest of the PostScript job (i.e. Your
document) if it finds that it's not running on an Apple-branded LaserWriter.
The other mod I use (which may not be of interest to you) involves
re-enabling the ability to use outline fonts from within PublishIt! That do
_not_ choke the Acrobat Distiller.
If anyone here has any interest in these mods, let me know. Otherwise, I
won't waste your time and CSA2 bandwidth.
