Yes, it's true. System 6.0.1 has been released.

I've made a number of phone calls to Apple's Software Licensing Dept, and
they say all the necessary paperwork should be going out pretty soon to
those who hold a license to electronically distribute Apple System Software.
The person I spoke to also said that Apple would not be mailing disks of
6.0.1 out to user groups, but in a few days, they'll be doing a mailing to
user groups telling them it's OK to start distributing it. I was given a
verbal OK to start distributing it now, as the user group I'm involved with
meets this weekend.

Basically, if the above isn't clear, 6.0.1 should be online in a week or so.
