There are also some non-X programs that let you have a scrollback. I'm using
one right now. It's main advantage to me is that if I need to hang up (say
another familty member wants to use the phone) I can detatch all sessions
(with command codes the program intercepts). The sessions are, of course, on
virtual terminals and there are a whole lot of cool features besides scrollbck
