Huh? What? (Sorry Jim, couldn't resist :)

Glynn, I think you're suffering from a bit of delusion. Dealers
realized that they could make a larger profit, or a larger number of
smaller profits, selling Mac and PC equipment. Apple is shunning their
dealers with Apple's direct sales and Performa line distribution
in consumer electronics places.
Stating that Apple is engaged in a conspiracy dedicated to eliminating
the Apple II is simplistic, to be polite. The Apple II group
develops the system software on Macs. Macs are faster, and have
generally better tools for software development. Macs are also
neat computers, and if you've got the money to buy one, they're
not bad.
Unless Apple II users get away from this "Mac is the Enemy" nonsense,
we're surely dead. See, "Mac is our Friend". Almost all Apple II
improvements in the past three years can be directly attributed to the
Macintosh; Mac peripherals that work on the IIGS, Mac software
technologies (TrueType for instance), etc. The Apple II may be
Apple's bastard child, but because of solid design the Apple II
will continue at least as long as the Mac, even if Apple II hardware
development is reduced to writing drivers for Mac devices.
