First of all, in the future, you may want to post these types of questions 
to rec.games.misc, or at least cross-post them there...  Since Bard's Tale is
available for many computers, it doesn't matter what computer the person 
who answers your question is using..

But anyway, I just had this problem in the last day or two.  You must
have disregarded one of the clues it gives you:

Beware the sting at the tail (south) of the serpent way.

What it means is: Don't go SOUTH at the end of the "serpent" (i.e. squiggly)
road in Kylearean's tower.  If you do, you'll be stuck in a stasis field like
you are.

You'll have to restart from your last saved position. Hopefully you save games
often!

By the way, does anyone know of any "notepad" CDAs?  Ones that will save
automatically if possible.. if I have to do it manually it's better than
nothing, but for now I've got a ton of little post-it notes with the apple logo
on 'em stuck around.. [I got 'em when I interviewed last year].

A notepad CDA would be VERY helpful.
