You could also have a normal version of DOS 3.3 on the disk...but simply
changed the "DISK VOLUME" message.  I recall a program I found in a book
that would do this.  I thought it was pretty neat at the time.  I don't
know why Copy //+ wouldn't read it though, just because the "Disk
Volume" message had changed.

Sounds like you either have a modified DOS (with the catalog on some
track other than $11), or perhaps DOS 3.2 (which isn't a 16-sector disk,
and could goof up C2+)???

MUFFIN takes care of DOS 3.2 disks (converts them to 16-sector disks).
Otherwise, try using FID as someone suggested to copy the files to
"normal" DOS 3.3 disks.
