 I had some bizarre troubles with the Harmonie drivers.. I believe that there
was a strange circumstance where it was compatible with EGOed and WordWorks
Pro 2.0 but since then, refuses to function. I gave up and am using a
SevenHills driver. Teach was the only program that continued to work but it
lacks most of the features of the other two (namely a Ruler!).

 You may want to try using a Grappler+ parallel card, it speeds up printing
rather drastically. I don't currently have a Zip in the GS I use, but while I
did it went even faster yet- the rendering process is more tolerable.

 YES.. I'd be interested in that, as I too own a DeskJet 500 printer.. However
I am very infrequently in any sort of shell so how long before its an
independant application or such??  (until then I'd use a shell of course tho)
**Anything to improve quality or speed...
