Hi everyone,
I had some questions regarding the RamFAST SCSI card and I was wondering if
someone out there could help me. I currently own a RamFAST rev D v3.00L card
and I have two hard drives connected to it: a CMS SD20 and a SyQuest 88C
(which takes both 88M and 44M cartridges). My questions are:
Has anybody successfully connected a removable HD (like the SyQuest) to two
machines? (e.g. IIGS and synthesizer). If so, I'd like to know how you did
it? I notice that the RamFAST seems to poll the removable every second or so,
I guess, to see if a cartridge is there or not. This polling is confusing the
synth which is also connected the removable. Is there a way to disengage this
polling feature?
Does anybody know how to remount a cardtridge that has been unomunted with the
"Put Away" feature in the Finder or the "Shutdown" command in GS/OS? Right
now, I have to turn off the removable HD and turn it back on again to get the
RamFAST to "see" it again. The synth has the ability to "unmount" the disk if
I issue a "sleep" command from it; but it can "awaken" the HD if I try to
issue some I/O command, like save. Does the RamFAST have this "wake-up"
feature?
Finally, the RamFAST seems to confuse the size of cartridges if I use
different sized ones during one "session". For instance, if I boot up my GS
with an 88M cartridge, eject it while in the Finder, and insert a 44M
cartridge, I get bizarre numbers for disk usage -- the numbers in the windows
that I have open for the 44M cartridge now show values like 17M used and 63M
free, which of course, doesn't add up to 44. I'm assuming that the RamFAST
will only recognize cartridge of one size, either 44M or 88M, for one session
and inserting a cartridge of the other size during one session will screw up
things.
I apologize for being so long-winded but I'd really appreciate it if I could
get some answers or insights into this. Thanks!
Hiroshi
