No, it is not necessary to go parallel.  It is benifical!  I gained about a
4x speed increase on my Deskjet myself.  When Vitesse kepted saying how
fast parallel was, at first I did not believe them.  Then I got may hands
on a used card and WOW!  It is not that the GS rendering keeps up or does not
keep up, because the print driver renders some (filling memory) then dumps to
the printer, then renders some more then dumps, etc...  During that dump
cycle the GS is dumping quite a bit of data at 300 dpi.  That is where
the speed will be shown!  No in text printing but graphics.

I think the IIIP comes with 1 meg standard.  Well, the one I saw at Office
Depoet came with 1 meg. for 899.  Again there is quite a bit of data to print
at 300 dpi and a Laser printer is a PAGE printer.  It prints a PAGE all at once
.  Your usual dot matrix printer or inkjet only wait for a lines worth of data
while the laser printers wait for a page.  Thus you will need a page worth
of memory for printing 300dpi graphics.  I've been told 1 meg will make it.
2 megs. would give a safty margen.
