Yes, that connector (which has a disk icon just above it) is for an External
5.25" Disk Drive. 
No, you don't need a controller card. There isn't room enough in a //c anyway and
no slot to plug in such a card. Just connect the drive (with power switched off). 
Once the drive is connected, it behaves like a drive in a (physically
non-existent) slot 6.
