No, the controller is built-in. (In fact, it's only one chip: the magic
IWM :)  ). If the drive has a DB 19 cable (e.g. a //c external drive, or
a IIGS 5-1/4" drive) everything is OK. If you bought a Disk ][ with the
ribbon cable, you need an adapter.
