The mailer bounced my reply so will post here.
1.Get the Sams book by Brenner entitled "Troubleshooting the Apple
Two Plus/Two E" I found one in the local public library. Brenner
goes into game port functions in detail.

2. There is a program called Plusworks that allows a II+ to run
Appleworks. It's available from Alltech in Ocean View,Ca.

3. I just made the shift key mod to an old ][+ clone that I have at
home. It consists of a wire from the shift key to pin 4 of the game
port,or to pin 1 of the IC directly in front of the game port. A 2200
ohm pull-up resistor to +5 v is also a good idea. Pressing the shift
key should give 0v at pin 4. Check with PRINT PEEK(49121),the number
returned should be >128 w shift down,<128 with shift up. Mine also
has a locking P.B. switch as a shift lock key.
You also need a lower case character generator , an 80 column
card from Alltech for around $50.00 U.S. is the easiest solution.
     Sorry,I don't have Alltech's # handy-you can find it in InCider
A+ magazine. Hope this helps .
