This is definitely the bad flyback connection problem. Find an electronics
guru and tell them to resolder the 10 joints on the flyback transformer.
Your monitor will then be good as new.
ObWarning: Don't try this if you don't know what you're doing, as hazardous
voltages exist in the flyback circuit. If you kill yourself, I can't be held
responsible.
