And you're right. What are you supposed to use? We use soldering irons
and heat guns all the time on multilayer boards with no problem. The
microfractures suggest your iron may have been to hot or you have a
very shaky hand, but that is still tough to do. You said you did get it
working, though, what was the problem & how did you eventually fix it?
