Our six months are nearly up...
About the middle of last year, a proposal came up for creating a new
newsgroup called 'comp.sys.apple2.programmer', with the intention
being to cut down the volume of messages in c.s.a2, and to keep the
programming-related messages in one area.
The subsequent vote for newsgroup creation failed, due to an
insufficient number of votes being cast. This may have been due to
bad timing (school years, holidays, etc.).
The USENET 'rules' require a six month waiting period before a
proposal can be re-introduced. The end of the voting period was in
August, and it is now six months later (or will be in a few weeks - I
can't remember the date on which the voting closed).
Is anyone interested in having another attempt at going through the
RFD/CFV process to have this group created?
I can't remember who acted as the vote collector last time. I'd
rather not do this myself, as I haven't run a newsgroup vote before,
and it will cost me a lot of money to receive the voting messages.
If there is enough interest, I would suggest that we do a straw poll
this time, to make sure we can get enough votes, before trying for the
RFD/CFV. Otherwise, it might be another six months before we get a
programming group.
Please DON'T E-Mail me a lot of messages saying 'yes, I'd like to see
this group created' or 'no I wouldn't'. Right now, I'm looking for
someone who is prepared to run a RFD/CFV on this, and to come up with
a charter (I don't think I have a copy of the previous charter).
In addition, comp.sys.apple2 is not an appropriate newsgroup for
discussing the creation of a new group, so I've directed followups to
news.groups.
