Woah, I don't think this is such a good idea. The place to conduct straw
polls and initial discussion about splitting/adding new groups is indeed
within the original news group. I don't think we should take anything
to news.groups until we have an RFD ready for them. The last thing
we need to do is to piss off some news.grouper and have them use their
newsfeed power to prevent passing of the group (it has happened before).

Also, I think there are many people with valuable input who can't
access news.groups through no fault of their own. If anything, please
make sure to _crosspost_ your followups so people on comp.sys.apple2
can read them.

I think that it might be time to discuss a split along the lines that
USENET has been moving towards for a while. I mean, look at this:

comp.sys.apple2
comp.sys.apple2.gno
comp.sys.apple2.programmer (proposed)

I think this proposal would be received much more favorably if we followed
the general trend thusly:

comp.sys.apple2.misc (rename)
comp.sys.apple2.gno
comp.sys.apple2.programmer (proposed)
...

Notice that the .gno group already fits nicely within this heirarchy.

Such a split is in discussion in rec.arts.anime; and it seems that something
similar will happen (in this case, rec.arts.anime will be renamed to raa.misc,
and there will be two or more other groups created in the raa. heirarchy).

Initial questions there re: mailing lists (Anime-L) and such were handled
very easily, so it's my impression that a transition from csa2 to csa2.misc
could be made smoothly and easily. And it would clear the way for future
additions to the csa2. heirarchy, if they are determined needed.

Last time the csa2.programmer RFD/CFV were a bit rushed. Let's not jump
in so quickly this time.
