If you're getting this from the headphone jack, it will always give you that
kind of output. The IIgs internal audio output circuits don't do stereo at
all :(

That's right, you _could_ get 32 simultaneous sounds, however most of them
would sound pretty thin. Pairing oscillators is a common practice because it
tends to sound better (plus it is a natural organization for exploiting the
ensoniq swapping and looping features).
