I think the problem is in Pointless, myself.  I was very wowed looking at it on
my neighbors machine until I saw the number of Mac fonts that mess it up.  My
neighbor and I have determined (by trial and error) that only about 80% of 
commercial fonts work well and only about 25% of the public domain stuff.  The
fonts that don't work well either don't rasterise well for some characters 
(filled in O's, etc.) or just crash the machine.  ALL the fonts work properly
on the Mac.  (Two of the fonts in Apple's font pack, Delphian and Oxford, will
kill the latest version of Pointless, 2.01)  The incompatibility is what's
preventing me from getting Pointless.  I'm impressed with it myself but I'm
waiting for Westcode to make it a little more compatible with existing fonts.
