One of my favorite //e games, Aztec, crashes when I try
to access the control panel on my IIGS. I don't quite know
why this happens, as the game was written in 1982, several
years before the IIGS came out.
Here are the symptoms: The game boots fine, but when I
(usually) realize that the system speed is way too fast for
it, I try and go into the control panel to slow everything
down. I can change the speed and all, but when I quit out
of the Control Panel, the system hangs and starts beeping
(using the system beep) rapidly. It doesn't matter what I
do-- if I just pop up the CDA menu and quit, it'll still
beep just the same. I have to reboot the system at that
moment, which gets highly annoying.
I have a Rom 01 IIGS with 2 MB Ram, 1 3.5", 1 5.25",
no accelerator, and a 40 MB hard drive. I've switched
out the hard drive, but that doesn't do anything.
Some theories: the computer is using the stack pointer
as a "fourth" register, causing the system to acidentally
mess up everything during the CDA Menu, or the CDA menu
doesn't save/restore everything that it modifies. Page
2 perhaps?
I tried making the game crash into the monitor to get
a dump of what's going on, but even WHILE IN THE MONITOR,
the CDA menu still trashes everything.
The last part is what really bugs me, and if there are
any real good hackers out there who could come up with a
fix, or something, I'd be really happy.
Thanks in advance.
