Because it's a pain in the ass to recode the software every time to
support something that should be in the software to begin with?  It's
a legitimate complaint - you will notice he didn't claim it was a
piece of worthless crap, rather that he took the time to make the
mentioned changes, which would seem to imply that he felt the software
was worth something.

Yeah, he doesn't appreciate it so much that he takes the time to
modify it for his use.  I've always thought that a lot of Apple //
shareware authors should rerelease their products as whineware.
