it might be due to your inits and system setup files.  Try holding the
Shift key while booting up to disable all the init files then run AWGS
again to see if the problem exists.
	But for the cursor changing to <->, that's because you can
change the width of the database columns by clicking on the boundary and
dragging!  Read your AWGS manual properly.
