Do you have an enhanced IIe (65C02 processor) or unenhanced (6502)?
You can tell by looking at the name displayed at the top of the screen
when you reboot. An unenhanced IIe displays 'Apple ][', while the
enhanced IIe displays 'Apple //e'.

There are two SCSI interface cards made by Apple: the original one,
and the 'High Speed' one. The latter requires a 65C02 processor
(enhanced IIe, IIc or IIgs), but is quite a lot faster than the
original card. Apple no longer sell the original SCSI card, so you
would have to buy a second-hand one. Make sure it has the latest ROM
('revision C', which is labelled 341-0437-A.

You can also use one version of the RamFAST SCSI card (I'm not sure
which one).

You will only be able to use the ProDOS operating system with the SCSI
hard drive (i.e. you can't use DOS 3.3, Pascal or CP/M, at least, not
easily).

All the SCSI cards are supplied with software that can test and
partition the hard drive. No additional software is required - ProDOS
will automatically recognise the hard drive (once it is formatted) and
you can use standard ProDOS utility programs to copy files to and from
the hard drive.
