Finder Pastel colored windows

For some time I've experienced exiting an application either
normally or by the three-finger-salute and arriving in the finder
and finding one or more windows colored by pastel bands. Needless
to say, one cannot select any icon so colored so the only recorse
is to reboot. Unfortunately, this does not always clear the
problem and one has to boot once more...

At times I've had to park my HD heads and power off to clear the
problem.

I have very few CDA/NDA items and they are all old timers and as
such would appear on the "accepted list of good DAs."

When a window has been "pasteled" not all icons are
pasteled. Normally it is only the top part of the window, however,
there are times when there is a top and bottom band of pastel
colors. Selection of icons in the non-pasteled portion work
properly.

Is this experience a known finder problem?
