Control-I "80N" is a pretty much standard init string used by most printer
cards, and is the default string used by AppleWorks when printing to an Epson
parallel printer. This is easily confirmed by checking out the "Interface Card"
selection in the "Specify Information about Printers" menu.

Unfortunately, the manuals with all of the _APL_ cards I have seen specify
Ctrl-I 80N as the init string, anyway. I have fiddled with this string a bit
to see if I could get any response on several occasions, all to no avail.
Perhaps you DO have one of the later cards.
