re: Appleworks 3.0 and Epson APL card

It has been a while but my first printer was an Epson FX-80 connected via 
an EPL card.  All I recall having to do to get the printer to work 
perfectly with Appleworks was to specify, in the 'other activities' menu, a 
printer initialization string.  That string was 'ctrl-I80N'.  I don't 
remember having to make any patches to Appleworks (I could easily be 
mistaken, however, considering the "plethora" of patches that circulated 
for the early versions of Appleworks).  I bought that EPL card in 1984 if 
that helps in determining the probable ROM version.
