[I tried replying to your message by E-Mail, but it bounced].
The 'erasing cursor' is caused by the CloseView INIT supplied with
System 6. Certain programs don't get along well with CloseView. If
you want to use those programs, the only solution is to disable or
remove CloseView. This will also get rid of the message about "No
Shadow RAM".
CloseView can be used to provide a magnified view of the screen. If
you don't need to use it, it will just be wasting memory.
You can disable CloseView from the Finder as follows:
- Open your system disk's icon.
- Open the "System" folder icon.
- Open the "System.Setup" folder icon.
- Select the "CloseView" icon (by clicking on it once).
- Choose "Icon Info" from the "Special" menu.
- Click on the "Disabled" check box.
You must then reboot (use the Shutdown command under the special
menu). CloseView will no longer be loaded into the system, so it
won't interfere with Quest for the Hoard.
Another potential troublemaker (on a ROM 01 only) is Easy Access, which
is also in the System.Setup folder. If a program attempts to read a
key with interrupts disabled, the computer will hang. You can't even
Control-Apple-Reset out of it - the computer has to be turned off and
back on again in order to recover from the hang.
Easy Access provides "sticky keys" and "keyboard mouse" facilities for
ROM 01 (they are built into ROM 03), but it causes problems with some
programs as described above. If you don't intend to use it, you may
wish to disable it. Use the same method as above.
