Shadow Ram

I downloaded the program "Quest for the Hoard" from Pegsoft and tried
to run the program.  I get an error message "No Shadow Ram" and the
program will either abort or go ahead and run.  If the program runs,
the cursor get a wipe area equal to the size of the cursor and whatever
I pass the cursor over gets wiped out and replaced by what is on a back
screen.

My question is:Is this because my //gs has a ROM 01 chip in it?  Or is
there something else I don't know about which is happening.  I have 4megs
of memory on an AE GSRam card.
