Aaah, I have to argue with this. I do pay for hardware and
software, so I'm not defending people who want everything for free. I
am defending 'college kids' with 'free' access to the internet. I
dunno about most of the people out there, but my access isn't free.
It's part of the package I get for paying a large amount of money to
Carnegie Mellon University. When I say large, think about buying a
new Alfa Romeo Spider every year. I'm pretty damn poor right now. I
can definitly sympathize, even empathize with people who want
something for nothing.
You say "back in the good old days...". Well, back then, an Apple
][ costed a HELL of a lot of money. Now, they're somewhat
inexpensive. Presumably, if you had the dough for the machine, you'd
have a little left over to buy software. Now, you can save up a
little cash, get a machine, and have nothing left over.
Just because some people don't have the steady income you may or may
not have, doesn't mean you have the right to insult them with comments
like "Now, college kids with FREE access to the Internet want
everything for nothing. Sheesh." So my two points stand: 1) most
accounts aren't free; and 2) college students (I know I'm no 'kid')
may very well be poor, since they're spending their money on an
education.
If you're gonna complain about anyone with free accounts, yell at
the people who work for a living, and have free accounts through work.
Hell, you could even say that they get PAID to use the net...
