    Way back in an old issue of A+ Magazine, they listed out all the free
  upgrades that you are supposed to be able to obtain for your equipment.
  One such upgrade WAS for the 3.5" drives.  I forget the exactly problem
  that this cured; all I remember that it was not a wide spread problem
  in all drives. (most drives still function normally dispite the 'bad'
  rom. Mine's fine, I never did take it in for the upgrade)
