uShare from IPT is a great product. It is AppleShare for Unix workstations. It
rins on NeXT's, Sun's, etc...There are no problems when using the Mac's and
uShare, and the GS is almost there. The GS can use Mac's as servers just 
fine.
 
There are several issues here: one is the issue of Phase 1 vs. 2, which isn't
supposed to matter for nodes on Localtalk (but it might). AFP means that it
is following the Appletalk protocols, which are a heck of a lot nicer than 
doing things via TCP/IP (which is an alternative).
 
The Mac uses Appletalk. The Unix world largely uses TCP/IP. Appletalk is an
alternative, and a very nice one at that. If I can only get these minors 
details dealt with then connecting into the TCP/IP world would then only 
require an Appletalk to TCP/IP router, and these will surely exist soon in
software.
