Re: OctoRAM Memory upgrade

Thye Chean and any other OctoRAM owners out there,

I own an OctoRAM board, but since the SIMMs I got for it were bad, I've
never actually used the card. I have played with it for a while though.

1) Yes, you can upgrade to more than 4 MB. The OctoRAM will hold up to 8
1 Meg SIMMs giving you 8 MB of RAM.

2 & 3) Yes, you must remove all of the 256K SIMMs to use 1 Meg SIMMs, you
can't mix and match. You can replace the 256K SIMMs with 2 1-Meg
SIMMs to break even, or 4 1-Meg SIMMs to get 4 Meg, or 8 1-Meg
SIMMs to get 8 Meg (neat how that works, huh?) :)

4) I just moved back to St. Louis and can't find my manuals yet. E-mail me
in about a week, and I'll have them.

5) This may be related to your previous post about your DMA SCSI problems.
There are some limitations on DMAing to the upper 4 banks of your Octo-
RAM with either the DMA or RAMfast SCSI, but I don't remember the de-
tails. Sorry. One of my projects this spring is to get my OctoRAM
working and up to 8 Meg. If you get it to work, please email me.

Hope this helps.
