problems w/comp.sys.apple2
I am experiencing some difficulties with this list/newsgroup as follows:
(1) I get 50+ msgs/day from this list which would be better appreciated if
most of them were not duplicates of earlier posts. The exact same msg
(even to posting date) will appear in my mailbox 3,4 even 5 times. My mail
is checked every 59 minutes and often 3-4 of these duplicates appear
together. Is there an echo in here? Judging from the headers perhaps,
literally, there is. So what, if anything can be done about it? Is there
not a daemon that can ferret these dupes out and zap the redundancy?
(2) I have tried on several occasions to reply to A2 questions using the
address in the signature (the header addresses rarely work because of all
the "bangs" (!)) only to have the mail bounced 87% of the time. I'd like
to share what little I know but this is frustrating to the point where I
think thrice before going to the trouble of responding to a question.
(3) The quality of messages here has deteriorated to the point where I
rarely read any msg that doesn't really grab me with the subject header.
The others I delete wholesale w/o reading them. I am particularly put off
by the personal attacks that have increased in frequency and pitch lately.
These folks need to seek out a counseling forum and learn how to deal with
their anger and immaturity, this is not the place for it.
(4) The whining about Apple, Inc. policies is a real "downer" and seems not
to serve any worthwhile purpose. I picture a little man with a little
moustash like 8-* exhorting us all to don brown shirts, march on Apple's
Cupertino offices, drag Skully into the streets and dismember him. This is
not good four our collective mental health.
I remember how my dad and I felt when Chrysler decided not to produce any
more DeSotos. We had a 1947 black four-door. We felt betrayed, fearful of
not being able to continue driving it, and somehow disconfirmed in our
choice of equipment. Nonetheless, we drove that orphaned car until the
body rusted through and enjoyed it just as much, and perhaps more, as if
there had been a new DeSoto introduced every year.
Let's light the candle of helping each other get the most out of our Apple
II computers instead of cursing the darkness.
