Ah, sorry.  I should have mentioned I was talking about the Rockwell
versions (R6551 and R65C51) which is what I had experience with at work.

Rockwell don't have a '6551A' or '65C51A', but from your description
it seems that their R65C51 is equivalent to the 65C51A.

We eventually ditched the 6551 and 65C51 due to their stupid flow
control handling, and now use the Motorola MC2681 DUART (very similar
to the MC68681) and the Zilog Z85130 ESCC (Enhanced version of the
IIgs and Mac's SCC).
