The problem of the red screen may be caused by incorrect focusing
of the electron guns in your monitor. (Or something to that effect.)

I once had a problem where white pixel on the screen had a red
tinge on one side and a blue tinge on the other. There's some kind of
focusing knob on the inside of the monitor which I adjusted and fixed
the problem. This does mean opening the case. I can't remember the
precise details of which knob.
Anyone else know?
