AppleNET 2.0 (upcoming features)
For those interested, here's a list of features to be found in the upcoming
release of AppleNET Pro v2.0 (Summer'93). It is in no way complete, as more
features can, and will likely be added between now and it's release date.
Comments or suggestions should be forwarded to Derek Fong, author of ANET 1.5a,
at his NetMail address: "dfong@cam.org"

AppleNET Pro v2.0's Planned User Features
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
o Easy-to-read menus, and easy-to-select commands make navigation
through AppleNET easy.
o Message-writing utilities include a notepad (for grouping many
replies into one message), an easy-to-use text editor, scanning
of message titles, and more!
o The User Utilities now includes an option for you to configure
your default file protocol (Xmodem, Ymodem, and Zmodem are
currently available). File transfers are now more automated!
o Easy-to-use files section is fast, efficient, and much-improved
over previous versions.
o At the sysop's discretion, TTY, ProTERM Special, ANSI, and DEC
VT-100 emulation is provided for your preferences.
o Again, at the sysop's discretion, you may login at any speed,
ranging from 300 bps to 19,200 bps!
o Mailing lists make carbon copy mailings a breeze!
o Configure menus to appear automatically before menu prompts,
display command keys only, or go straight to the menu prompt.
o System information is now more detailed (more on that in a later
post).
o Conferencing allows you to jump straight to the topic of interest
you want to see, without having to read messages in other bases
that don't interest you.
o File enclosures allow you to send private files to a friend of
yours on the BBS, as well as carbon copies of those Emails and
file enclosures without having to reupload the file!
o Create custom signatures so that you don't have to signoff Emails
manually or with macros. Just save your message, and your
signature is automatically appended to the end of it!
o Upload parts of a file, and resume the transfer later, using
Zmodem Resume in the files section!
o Help can be obtained from most prompts by pressing "?".
o And much more! This list was intentionally kept short, as things
are bound to change during development.
AppleNET Pro v2.0's Planned Sysop Features
AppleNET Pro v2.0's Planned Sysop Features
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
o Various sysop utilities to help make installation and setup much
easier and require less guess-work than previous versions of ANET.
o Configurable options include a definable cancel key, stopping the
time clock for uploads or chats, number of days before users are
purged from the system for inactivity, "forcing" users to read
system announcements that you post, and much more!
o AppleNET's new accounting system will allow you to have a system
where users must pay for access in certain areas, but may get other
areas free of charge! You may configure hourly rates for system
usage, surcharges for other areas and options, and more!
o Support for file transfer protocols include Xmodem, Ymodem, and
Zmodem, with the ability to easily add new ones as they become
available!
o Terminal emulations supported include TTY, ProTERM Special, ANSI,
and DEC VT-100, again, with the ability to easily add more.
o All written in Applesoft (with AmperWorks and ModemWorks
ampersand extensions) for maximum customizability.
o A new "graphical" RAMDisk loader imitates System 6.0's bootup
thermometer! Changes to the bootup procedure are now a lot
simpler, and more straightforward than in previous versions!
o Conferencing support is now included for all areas (ie: messages,
online games, and files). You can have up to 36 conferences,
with 30 messages bases per conference. That's a total of 1080
message bases!
o Support for future networking modules is included.
o AppleNET system events are now configurable! No need to manually
change events so that they "daisy-chain" one another after
execution as with previous versions of AppleNET. Now, simply
enter the Event Editor, make your changes, and presto!
o User Editor retains the flexibility of previous AppleNET
versions. Time and calls/day limits, security settings, and
sysop notes on a user are all user-specific! Even if one user
has level 3, you can have another user at level 3, but they don't
have to have the same priviledges as each other!
o And much, much more, as the old saying goes. MANY more features
would've been added to this list for viewing by everyone
interested, but considering this is a pre-release list of what we
PLAN will be in the final version, I wouldn't like to get hopes
up, just to end up telling you that a feature you liked has been
scrapped. What you see above might change quite a bit by the time
AppleNET Pro v2.0 is released (we're hoping for the end of summer
1993), so don't use this against us! ;-) Also, I must admit that
another reason for the shortness of this list is just in case some
unscrupulous individuals get any ideas of copying our pre-release
ideas... This is just the tip of the iceberg anyways...

..For those who don't already have the current version of AppleNET v1.5a, I'll
be sending it up to an FTP site *very* shortly, and hopefully a binscii'd copy
to comp.binaries.apple2 soon! I'll post a message here when I've made it
available for download :)
