No problem with a modern drive, but no good idea for the old 5.25"/3.5" designs. These drives may be operated PCB down or lying on the long sides, but not standing on the short (connector) side or upside down.
Nevertheless, Apple mounted early 40MB SCSI units upside down in the compact Macs and some of them still work today. But many do not...
