Hello,

What are the GAL chips used for? I remember getting new ones from
Reactive for my upgraded Transwarp GS as well as one for a GS-RAM Plus
that needed it for ROM 3.

Funny you mentioned the re-capping. When I started up on my vintage
stuff a year ago I pulled out the soldering iron and have been re-
capping since. It's amazing (to a electronics laymen like myself) how
much stuff that can be brought back to life by re-capping.

As of now I've gone through and re-capped;

(3) Vulcan GS power supplies (although I did blow the first one up..
sigh.. don't re-cap while full of vodka..)
(1) IIgs motherboard (video wouldn't work right - recapped it on a
whim and it's perfect!)
(2) IIe power supplies
(3) IIgs power supplies
(1) FIngerPrint GS+ card (card for capturing any screen in DOS or
ProDOS .. works great now)
(1) UDC card (the original GOLD card I had .. replaced both caps.. all
good!)

I think the most enjoyable part of vintage Apple stuff is not
finishing up the machine but the actual process of finding the elusive
card, re-capping the broken hardware, seeing the results of a bath of
retrobright bring back a machine and digging up old disks full of
images of yourself at 12 making faces at a Computer Eyes IIe.

Good stuff!
