However, I've searched high and low for programmable replacements for
these, and the closest I've come up with is the part that's twice the
capacity - and they are still old stock. From my googling a year or
two ago, new parts have been reverse engineered for military and space
use. Thus they are very pricey.

After ordering some way-overpriced parts from Unicorn Electronics and Circuit Specialists, I got this tip:

Read carefully and make sure your programmer can handle the odd branded parts! He will also program them for a nominal fee.
